One summer when I was 10 yrs old, I went with my family to visit the Basilica de Guadalupe in Mexico City; Mexico's biggest cathedral.
As we were walking around, I noticed a group of people that looked of Mexican descent but were talking in a language that I've never heard of before. I asked my mom what language they were speaking and she told me the Aztec language Nahuatl. I had heard before that the language was still used, but i never thought that I will ever see people speaking it.
I was fascinated of how old the language is and how it continues to exist despite Spanish being the most spoken language in Mexico.

Thats awesome! I didn't know people still spoke the Aztec language. I'm currently taking a hispanic culture study class, and I'm learning about the different ancient cultures.
ReplyDeletewow, this is very fascinating. i was too under the impression that no one really uses the language anymore. it is good find out that this very old civilization didnt become extinct or loose its language.
