The glass ceiling

You have dreams and goals
You have ambition and dedication
You feel like your going to rule the world

You are shooting towards the sky
feeling like nothing is going to stop you
but that's what you think
because, before you know it you have crashed and can't move any further.
The sky is clear though, and you can't see what's in your way
The stars are so close though
you can almost touch them with your hand
but the glass ceiling has gotten in your way.

blogging, good or bad?

I have to agree, that blogging for this class has helped me interact with people that I normally would have not spoken to and it has allowed me to get to know how others have felt about the class and the projects we have done, which has been interesting. The blog has allowed me to rethink the class activities and even the lessons that we have gone over in class. This has allowed me to understand and even memorized certain concepts, also it has given me the chance to express my feelings towards them. I really enjoyed reading the professors blogs because they were very inspirational and motivating. It is always nice to have someone that will motivate and remind you you to keep up with your goals. I do feel like this blog was not difficult at all and over all I enjoyed blogging about my thoughts. I am very thankful that it is 20% of our grade and think that it should be continued in future classes. I can't promise I will, but I might go back to blogging for other subjects and hobbies. Perhaps about advertising, it has definitely change my opinion about it in a positive way.

C.I

I feel that the diagnostic will have been more accurate if I were put under Influence/Conscientiousness, rather than the other way around .Although, Both were very close to each other. I always try to stay optimistic and like making favorable impressions. I also like being in groups, which is a reason why I am part of a athletic team in school. I would not mind having some Dominance characteristics though because it will help me be more firm with others and help me make quicker decisions. In regards to changing your type, i think that it will be pretty hard to become another type but it is not impossible, it is just a matter of trying to stick to it. I feel that this test could be used to help have an idea of the type of manager/leader a person is, but it should not be the only thing being used. A person should be given the opportunity to show who they are rather than by just taking a diagnostic test. I do think it can help you in other personal interactions because the test is not only showing how you are as a manager but also how you are as a person.

My future plans

Since I could remember, I was always asked what I wanted to be when I grew up either from family or teachers. I first started as wanting to be an painter when I was in grade school because I loved art but my mom told me that I would end up homeless with no job, so that idea went out the window. I then decided to do something in law but after taking a few classes in high school I realized that law was not for me. Then in my senior year of high school, I took a class on marketing and really liked it. I decided that I wanted to major in it and decided to attend Baruch.

3 years later, I'm still a marketing major but with a better idea of what I want to do after I graduate. I will like to pursue a career in advertising, most likely in brand planning because it involves psychology and creativity, which is what interests me the most.I will also like to work for an AD agency that does work for sport companies for example like NIKE, since I'm an athlete and find their Ads very motivating and inspiring.

After i graduate though, I don't want to jump into the field right away; I will like to accomplish some personal goals for example like traveling. After working for a couple of years, I will probably go back to school for my masters.

I'm pretty set about what I want for my future and hope to one day accomplish it.

Decisions, decisions!

The professor knew that most of us were not happy with our grades. Therefore he decided to give us a second chance at getting a good grade for the class, as well as teaching us about decision making. He decided to let us decide on what to do with the first test as well as deciding what the format for the next test will be. He left us with no guidelines other than our decision having to be a reasonable one. Also that the whole class had to agreed on it. At first first it was very unorganized until one of the students stepped in as a leader and helped make the communication between the students more clear and organized. Everyone around the room threw in ideas until we settled with what we will do with the first test. As for the second test we were not as successful on deciding the format, but we all agreed on leaving it to the discretion of the professor.

I acted as a collaborator in this project because I will listen to what everyone will say and then will raise my hand if I liked it, as well if it seemed fair and reasonable. I had the same interest as everyone in the class in making my grade better, we were all equal and knew we needed to work together to come up with a good decision within the given time.

After the lecture in the following class, I agree with what professor Kurpis said about splitting the class into groups and getting a decision from each group. In this way there will have been less yelling in the class and perhaps we will have decided on something much faster in a more organized way.

The planning process

We went through most of the planning process except for developing alternative scenarios. We were too confident in our first plan and therefore felt like we did not need need an alternative plan. I felt like if we will have thought of other plans, perhaps we could have been more successful. Also, we did not talk about the strengths that we had as a group. Other than that I feel like we went through all the other steps. We defined our goal, we wanted to save the egg from breaking and we wanted the extra credit. We also knew that we only had 25 minutes to plan our task and implement it. A weakness that we mentioned was that we were the farthest from the scissors, so we had to figure out a way to get them first. We then divided our roles, some of us worked on making the egg basket, while another person worked on getting the scissors. I was the smallest from the group, so I was chosen to get on the table to trow the egg, like that we believed the distance from me to the floor will have been shorter and there will be less impact to the egg. Overall, I do think we all cared about the task and wanted to get that extra credit and therefore worked together to try and make it happen.

Culture Shock

One summer when I was 10 yrs old, I went with my family to visit the Basilica de Guadalupe in Mexico City; Mexico's biggest cathedral.

As we were walking around, I noticed a group of people that looked of Mexican descent but were talking in a language that I've never heard of before. I asked my mom what language they were speaking and she told me the Aztec language Nahuatl. I had heard before that the language was still used, but i never thought that I will ever see people speaking it.

I was fascinated of how old the language is and how it continues to exist despite Spanish being the most spoken language in Mexico.
